Another Sys Called Qanda

چکیده
2 Principal contact: This year our primary goal was to improve on the performance of our TREC-8 system. In addition to improving the system directly, we worked on a number of tools to aid our development. We continued our work on a tool for automatic scoring of system responses, a “judge” program. We designed a tool for doing regression testing of question answering systems. We developed a measure of candidate confusability which measures the effectiveness of a set of features for reducing the choices that a ranking system has to make: a coarse form of perplexity. Finally, we performed preliminary work on a method for generating supervised training data.

Qanda and the Catalyst Architecture
Qanda is MITRE’s entry into the question-answering (QA) track of the TREC conference(Voorhees & Harman 2002). This year, Qanda was re-engineered to use a new architecture for human language technology called Catalyst, developed at MITRE for the DARPA TIDES program. The Catalyst architecture was chosen because it was specifically designed for fast processing and for combining the strengths of In...

Qanda uses a general architecture for human language technology called Catalyst, (Burger & Mardis 2002, Nyberg et al., to appear). Developed at MITRE for the DARPA TIDES program, the Catalyst architecture is specifically designed for fast processing and for combining the strengths of Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing into a single framework. Catalyst uses a dataflow architec...
متن کاملA Sys Called Qanda
Our question answering system was built with a number of priorities in mind. First, we wanted to experiment with natural language processing (NLP) technologies such as shallow parsing, named entity tagging, and coreference chaining. We felt that the small number of terms in the questions coupled with the short length of the answers would make NLP technologies clearly beneficial, unlike previous...
متن کاملA control engineer's guide to sliding mode control
This paper presents a guide to sliding mode control for practicing control engineers. It offers an accurate assessment of the so-called chattering phenomenon, catalogs implementable sliding mode control design solutions, and provides a frame of reference for future sliding mode control research.
متن کاملUtility of Outpatient Syndromic Data for Monitoring Influenza-like Illness
Introduction The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) collects outpatient ILI data through North Dakota Influenza-like Illness Network (ND ILINet), providing situational awareness regarding the percent of visits for ILI at sentinel sites across the state. Because of increased clinic staff time devoted to electronic health initiatives and an expanding population, we have found sentinel site...
